Summer Monster Racing Reward Balance

Imported from legacy Flarum.

The costume available for Monster Racing are pretty steep in price given only one point is given per win. On top of that, the mini game is already gated by way of needing coins and on top of that 6 players must have entered the race for it to even commence. There are a few costumes I’d really like to get from there, but I may not be able to get all the ones I’d like and I’d imagine I’m not the only one who feels this way.

I would like to suggest an increase point count for the winner and a lower point awarded to all non-winning participants. For example, perhaps 5 points for the winner, and 1 or 2 points for non-winners.

This would still reward players for engaging in a the only mini game that requires other players, incentivizing more to join, as well as making it more realistic to obtain desired costumes that are otherwise gated behind three layers of either RNG or just barriers to entry, with a 1/6 chance of getting 1 point which you need 75 of to get just one costume.

Summer Race feels the most frustrating feature of the summer fest, where too many stars have to align for you to even participate, let alone win something.
The fact that Monster Coins were added to rewards of both digging and mining will mostly just extend their farming time, and it doesn’t counteract the fact that we are very FAR from getting at least a part of the costume rewards of summer race in its current state. It also hurts the appeal of Fish Swarm, since it’s main appeal from last year(monster coins) is now a part of more valuable and more readily available gameplay(plus the fact that you have to pay to go fishing)
Plus, the entire activity overall feels very monotone, to the point where i wouldn’t even blame people for trying to automate it.
I do wonder what would be a great solution, but i wonder if there is a way to add a chance for the winner(at least) to get a random hat from summer race’s rewards, to encourage participation while keeping it’s core as competitional sport in place(that’s just my idea of whatever it is supposed to be in the overall system of summer event)

Oh hai!~
I also want to share my experience of participation. I will not write about what has already been written above, only my experience of racing.

There are people who have already received quite a lot of points, but I, apparently, have been totally unlucky. On the first day, I spent about an hour and a half on bets and received only one point. There were active people, but I was unlucky, apparently. At the same time, I was actively farming coins all this time. On the second day of participation in the racing, I received 2 points in the first hour. After fishing, many participants appeared and, due to the fact that people were recruited faster for the racing, I was lucky to earn more points (I did not count how many). Then people spent their coins and left, and again participants for the racing began to slowly recruit, and points began to accumulate slowly again. Although my luck has improved a little. In total, I now have 49 points, 25 of which remained from last year. In total, in about 7-8 hours of continuous farming + sitting at the racing, I received 24 points. I also spent about 2 hours just farming coins from digging and mining, without racing. Sorry, I didn’t time it exactly, I may be wrong about the amount of time spent on digging and mining.

My conclusion: to get at least one costume, you need a lot of time + … luck. And if you are unlucky, you can spend hours farming coins + participating in racing, and not get anything at all. It is frustrating.

Last year I participated actively as much as I could, but I could not even get points for the last costume. Because people who had more time than me and who got what they wanted left and the racing stopped recruiting participants.

@iKat forgot to add to my previous message that 1st time summers enjoyers will have to grind twice the amount of points to get those same rewards. I’m not saying that we shall discredit the amount of time people spent last summer to get those rewards, but we could also make their life a bit better by reducing the amount of grind they will do as well.

@Obetovan People who play for the second year also have accumulated frustration, I think. (I do, for example.)

Agreed with all of the above, the racing is incredibly frustrating.

Two more thing I have to add on top of what has already been said:
- during peak hours - there are a lot of people who want to participate. Today there was a queue of around 20 players all trying to race at the same time. This means even though we took time grinding for coins, and the stars aligned so that interested people came to play - I couldn’t get in.
- In the above scenario it also happened multiple times where NPC took my coin but didnt let me race, as it was already full by the time

We’ve adjusted the points now slightly. Each participiation will give one point, winning additionally 3 points. About the waiting when too many players are there, we will still look into it.
