this is probably going to be the dumbest suggestion ever, but would it be possible to implement something to change the name of an item? not necessarily a completely custom one but just naming it to a different item complete with flavor text, icon and art while still inheriting the properties of the original item?
heres a photostop of what i had in mind:

here i edited the screenshot to replace death rune manteau with valkyrie manteau. this small meaningless change absolutely doesnt change anything except that it looks nicer in the equipment window lmao

I feel like it could take a lot of dev time.
Not against it, not with it, but it feels out of the scope.

I feel like this would take more dev time than it’s worth, I can’t see how it would be used either, if you wanted to customise your looks there’s costumes for that
The main reason people would look at each other’s equipment is to see what they’re wearing, which renaming & changing the icons of would mess with a new player trying to study others equipment

I don’t see where this is a good improvement. The art, icons - even the names - of the items are there to differentiate all the stuff the game have. Also, when items/equipments have the same icon or art, I really struggle to know which is which like: “I’m using a regular Guard or a Illusion Guard?” They have the same base icon, the Illusion have a tiny detail in red like other Illusion equipments. My point here is that “standardizing” all types of equipment will be a bit chaotic.
Another aspect of this change I get is when I look to the RPG side of it. It could be disapointing. The feel of improvement when you change from a cotton shirt to a plate armor when you’re a swordsman it’s “visible”, beyond the stats the item will give you on alt+s. It’s a visual indication you bought/crafted something all by yourself!

To make it short, this is basically handled locally by the client which can be manipulated similar to grf edits. This would result in a lot of complications with barely any use. So this will not be pursued.
