The playstyle of each player is nobody’s business, I don’t understand why they want to put restrictions on the number of times people do instances.
I agree?
I think you’re misunderstanding my suggestion. I’m just proposing an alternative method to do the same thing. This is not supposed to completely replace the current method.
If people want to create alts to do instances, they can still do it.
It people want to farm the same instance 100 times per day, they can still do that too.
What I’m suggesting is just an alternative for people who want to do things differently. And it’s not necessarily an easier one. I don’t see why it’s bothering the people who like the current playstyle, when it doesn’t really hurt them in any way. Just let the people who dislike dealing with alts have a more expensive but more comfortable alternative.

Thanks all for the discussion. Just want to add one more thing:
I started a topic, a suggestion, not a problem. Asked an honest question and provided what i thought could be some quality improvements on gameplay.
If the majority* wants to keep bothering on changing character every 2 minutes to farm instances because the investment has already been made, so be it.
Kindly appreciate comments that try to build upon or around the suggestion.
*Majority as majority in this post.

@jinbou In my opinion, a fair solution is to provide an alternative to the people who want to stick to their main characters instead of having to switch between dozens of alts with ugly names. My suggestion would be:
Add a one-time-use ticket, similar to the inventory expansion ticket, to the cash shop
Make it so, each time you use this ticket on a character, that character becomes able to repeat daily instances 1 extra time, up to 15 times. Not the whole master account, only that character. So if a person wants to repeat an instance on the same character 15 times, they’d have to purchase & use this ticket 14 times.
The ticket shouldn’t be cheap, I think somewhere around 20k~25k muh cash points would be an appropriate price. So it’d take 20-25 muh vouchers (approximately 150m-200m zeny) to use it once.
This way people have the option to either pay 50m on episode tickets and spend an hour on leeching their alts. Or spend 3x-4x that price, not bother with the process of leeching alts, and be freed from the annoyance of having to use dozens of alts, and switching gears between them constantly. I don’t see how giving people an option like this could be bad.
It doesn’t make sense, nobody would pay this price or a lower one to be able to do the instance 1 more time, development time invested in something unnecessary.
players repeat instances because they are interested in the loot for themselves, to sell it or for a card, and the price of being able to repeat an instance already exists and is established: create another character.
and in all these comments I have made, I have not even touched on the subject of the economy. It is already garbage. Do they want to make it even more garbage?

I disagree, it would definitely be worth it at this price, it’s not expensive at all considering the benefits it provides. If I didn’t already have dozens of alts I would definitely buy 14x of it the first day it was implemented. Hell, I might still buy some anyway.
Think of it like this: With the current method, we spend 50m on episode skip tickets. And we spend 1 hour or more leeching our alt character until it gets to lvl250. Time is money, we could use that 1 hour to farm more profitable maps and earn 150m+ zeny normally, but instead we have to leech our alts in low lvl maps and earn less than half of that.
When you look at it that way, making an instance-ready alt already costs us at least 120-130m with the current method anyway. Spending a tiny bit more for a nice QoL improvement is not a big deal at all.
and in all these comments I have made, I have not even touched on the subject of the economy. It is already garbage. Do they want to make it even more garbage?
I don’t think it’d affect the economy negatively in any way, if implemented this way.

I’m really not a fan of daily gating systems either, tbh. They always feel like a scummy way to drag out playtime. It’s especially frustrating in RO, where the endgame doesn’t have as much variety compared to other MMOs or mobile games, the usual suspects for these kinda mechanics.
That said, completely removing daily gating would be tough since the in-game economy revolves around items from these instances. Whether that’s a good thing or not is up for debate, but let’s be real here, if a game released in 2024 forced players to create 15 alts just to progress, it’d get bashed. The last game I played that had something similar was Lost Ark, where you needed alts to gear up your mains. And well, people weren’t happy with that grindy/gated mentality when it launched in the west. I don’t know how it’s doing now, tho, since I quit pretty early on.
In RO, gating is such a core part of the game that it’s hard to imagine it going away completely. Maybe a possible approach would be setting a cap on how many times you can run an instance per master account while still letting alts runs that go above this cap. That way, people who prefer sticking to their main can keep up without feeling left behind, and players who enjoy grinding with alts can still do their thing.
It might make progression feel a bit more fair overall, though it does raise new questions. What’s a reasonable limit for daily runs? And would it just lead to alt-runners dominating the market even more, since they could farm heavily on their main before switching to alts? Maybe there could be an option where you choose between a hard cap per master account or the option to run “infinitely” with alts.
Then again, that sounds like a headache to implement, and I’m just rambling here. But i do agree that progression caping trough daily gating is not a good overall design. So yeah, a fair and well implemented alternative would be great.

@airto I feel like you’re mistaking content pacing (sensible) for content gating (needless) but fair enough.
You do you mate.
One nitpick however.
@airto if a game released in 2024 forced players to create 15 alts just to progress
?
Forced where?
I mean it when I said everybody doesn’t have to be a tryharder.
Rolling alts to farm instances/whatever else isn’t needed, never was.
Dunno why part of the community is so insistent on normalizing this kinda mindset.

@MadMonkey
I agree with you that it’s not “forced”. But it’s one of the only things we can do once we get to endgame, instance mvp cards are too good to ignore. And if someone farms an instance once a day and leaves it at that, it’ll literally take 3 years for them to find one mvp card that they’re aiming. Let’s be real, for players who have reached endgame, instance spamming is something that’s hard to avoid.
I don’t like how the people who’re against this are like “let the tryhard play however they want” and “the playstyle of each players is their own business” (which I agree), when they’re the ones trying to limit the playstyles and forcing their own playstyle onto others by opposing suggestions like this. It’s the same with multiclient-related suggestions. If someone likes the current playstyle that’s fine, but some people dislike having to manage a billion alt characters, whether its about multiclient or spamming instances with alts. It’s not hard to see why many people consider it an awful gameplay design and want to avoid doing it. Allowing alternative playstyles to coexist with the current playstyle doesn’t have any negatives, as long as it has similar costs/expenses/profits so that the current playstyle remains viable, there is no reason to oppose it.
As long as the total cost to achieve it is the same, there’s literally no difference between making an alt character for daily instances vs making an existing character able to enter daily instances 1 extra time, end result is the same. The only difference is not having to bother with logout/login/unequip/equip gears, which is purely QoL and a win for everyone.

@MadMonkey It feels forced when I have no other goal for my character besides creating alts to progress at a decent pace. Context matters. Just because you choose not to care doesn’t mean others share that mentality.
It’s simple: if the only thing I want to progress with my main character is locked behind a time wall with no alternative, it is forced. What does this mean? I log in, do the instance, and log out. Great for you, right?
That’s fine you can still play the way you prefer. But for people who want to stick with their main characters without being pushed to create alts, they should have that option too. This is still a forced mechanic, even if it’s not as explicit as you’d like to believe.
There is a reason our dailys are not 1x character, and 15x master account :),

It is hilarious how it took over 30 replies to finally make your point of ‘i want lasgand and himmel card pls gib’
The entire reason you people have nothing to do in the game is because you limit yourself to not actually playing the game, but fulfilling a checklist like it’s some sort of job. When was the last time you needed 5 to 10b dps on any mob in this game?
YOU decided mvp cards are end all or be all for you. And before you say I am one of those alt train farmers, no they disgust me and I play one account only. Any GM can confirm this.
The solution to better the server is go back to 3x or 5x rates, one more thing(in another post), and make mvp cards not as a drop but something that I will make a post about later on(will be a long one).

Of fucking course this is about MVP cards. Why else would anyone spam the same instances multiple times per day, even making alts for that, isn’t that obvious. MVP cards are 99% of the reason people do instances, and naturally they were brought up a billion times in this thread already, we can’t discuss instance-related suggestions without discussing the concerns about how it’d affect MVP card market. I’ve been clear about that since my first post too, I don’t undersand how that is supposed to be a gotcha moment.
It is hilarious how it took over 30 replies to finally make your point of ‘i want lasgand and himmel card pls gib’
What you said is still irrelevant because what I’ve been proposing doesn’t make farming MVP cards easier. It’s a QoL suggestion for making the gameplay smoother while keeping the difficulty the same. Farming a lasgand or whatever would remain just as difficult. That’s the whole point of the modifications I proposed to the original idea.

Once again, I’ll reiterate that I never said anything about MVP cards, and you’re linking Jinbou’s quotes. Even if he wants a QOL change to farm those cards in the instance, your reaction to it is over the top.
My main stance against instance dailies is still about the material farming that some of these instances require (CT, OGHC, OGH, Lasgand, Sticky Sea). Personally, I’d rather do the content myself than pay others to do it. If others are fine spending their time farming zeny, that’s their choice, and that’s fine too. Also, changing rates has absolutely nothing to do with this discussion. Here’s an example: low-rate kRO. 3 hours of “disgusting” gameplay.
What really needs to go, though, is your attitude. Honestly, you’re adding nothing but toxicity to the discussion. This will be my last response to you.

He does have some points tho.
Particularly this:
@LAC When was the last time you needed 5 to 10b dps on any mob in this game?
and this:
@LAC YOU decided mvp cards are end all or be all for you
It actually recoups with what I said about rolling alts not being a requirement to anything.
And contrarily to what was implied here:
@airto Just because you choose not to care doesn’t mean others share that mentality
It has absolutely nothing to do with my opinions on this or whatever.
It is simply neither forced nor needed to play the game.
Period.
I can understand the feeling.
But the truth of the matter is it only feels forced because y’all forcing it on yourselves.
Can hardly blame the game (the instances’ cooldown mechanic in this particular case) for that.
Imported from legacy Flarum.
Original author: airto (Flarum #1124)
@MadMonkey I see it too. But what’s actually needed to play the game, then? I feel like the answer to that question is entirely personal. And I’m specifically talking about progression gating, not what reaching the end of that progression leads to, since that’s a different topic altogether.
The point isn’t about content getting easier. I actually agree that there’s a lack of challenges or decent party-play content right now. But that’s not the discussion we’re having here. My argument stays the same: on a server where we already have repeatable daily quests for materials (like D1, D2), it’s not far-fetched to extend that concept to instances as a QoL improvement. That’s all I’m suggesting. And if it gets rejected, it’s completely fine. It’s just a suggestion in the end. I’ll find ways to do the content in a pace i feel fine with.
The issue isn’t people disagreeing with my ideas, it’s how they approach it. There’s a way to disagree respectfully, and I don’t feel like that’s happening here. Being on the internet isn’t an excuse to go aggro whenever someone disagrees with you. Good communication is the name of the game.

Thought i’d bump this discussion again.
I keep thinking that removing the CD per character and making a global master account of 15* so we can do some extra instances if we feel like it, instead of being capped by how many characters we create, would be a nice addition.
*Does not have to be 15. Could be less.

I would like to suggest a way to improve instance farming that could possible avoid the making of 100 alts of the same character
Imho the “alt char” way its a RO failure and makes not much sense becasue you flood the account with copy of the same char
Important thing: i do not suggest an easy way to farm instances, but an alternative (quite expensive)
I think probably the easy way to do this its to generate an item similar to Gym Pass that give you a skill like “Instance Mastery”
This skill will allow an npc to reset the instance clearence for the day (all instances)
This skill could be leveled up to lvl10 for example (so max 10 resets per char)
How to get this ticket:
Ingame NPC →
Be max level 275/60 (or higher in future)
Pay a large amount of zeny (i was thinking about 250m-500m per ticket/skill level)
This mean that will cost from 2,5b to 5b to have a char that can do up to 10 runs per instance a day
The old “making alts way” its still possible to do, but if someone do not wanna flood the account with the same char over and over maybe this way there is an option
I would like to add that, in my opinion, this will not flood the market in any way because at the moment there are guys thta have 20-30 alts running 20x-30x instance. So basically its just a way to avoid the flloding of the account with alts
And i would like to also add that this way of farming (with alts or with this new method) its actually necessary for our low population server compared to kro
