Food Mat Drop Rate

Imported from legacy Flarum.

Would like to float the idea of mats for creating 20 stat foods having their drop rate increased a little. Some of the items drop at a pretty low rate, single digits, (or in Blood of Wolf’s case, less than 1%) and others are up to 15% but are not in very mob dense maps. Both scenarios create a bottle neck for making it feel worthwhile to farm these items for food buffs. Even with gum it can be a bit of a grind for not many food items created by the end of it.

The hope would be that increasing the drop rate would incentivize players to farm them, which could open up otherwise unused maps and create player market activity.

If considered, percentage increases aren’t really set in stone. Whatever feels appropriate to make it seem worthwhile to dedicate time to farm the items. I’d consider all potential drop rate increases with bubble gum in mind, obviously. I’m not asking for a 100% drop rate, but perhaps something like 50% on less mob dense maps (like those that drop from mobs in Ice Dungeon) and at least double digits, 10%, for more densely populated maps like Rachel field where Desert Wolf are.

Consumables have always been a part of RO gameplay, be it the Pre-Re days of farming Acid Bottles and Bottle Grenades, or Rune Knight runes in Renewal. Reaching instant-cast with the help of food items you’ve farmed for always feels really good, or reaching enough agi to hit 193 ASPD, and some skills even scale with vit.

I’m against this suggestion only because the server already feels very easy as is and I’m against anything which makes it easier. (+20 stat foods)

Outside of that, I think this is a good idea to inject more life into the economy, anything which gets playing actively trading goods with each other is practically always a good addition.
It would also indirectly ease inflation by encouraging illusion dopers to visit low level maps for material farming over farming raw zeny in dungeons like Geffenia & Thanatos Tower, so maybe this is worth it in the end.

Petition to make a poll to see what the rest of the community thinks, since most people probably aren’t forum goers and won’t even be aware of this suggestion.

Overall making it easier or something similiar is a good idea, but only for Mats with abysmal drop rates.
Stuff with 15% should be untouched while stuff under 1% should get a tiny buff.

@CongaLyne One thing you have to get out of your head is, it’s not about making things EASIER, it’s about giving people a reason to do something else. When you give people reasons to expand their time, they will do so, and consider options that will benefit the community as a whole. Easy isn’t always lazy, but your time, vs someone else’s time, is never even. Just because you don’t like something, doesn’t mean someone else should be completely locked out of an activity because you would consider it easy. Provide access, get results. Simple concept.

This is a wonderful idea overall, and the fact this person (who I know somewhat) is considering making suggestions, says a lot about this server. We have a lot of broken systems that need to be fixed, not by KRO, but by this staff, and they have to make that decision. This is one of those things, and I hope they consider it. Access is something that makes players walk away from a proposed idea, and it’s not because they’re lazy, but because there are other, more profitable things they can do, which results in the same Bloody Branch farming, until they leave. Let people have fun, instead of creating borders for people to cross because you find something easy.

@EvilLumi @CongaLyne
Kinda agree with EvilLumi here. (eww)

RO is already a very easy game. Even party content is not difficult.

However, RO is a very tedious game.

Making something less tedious does not necessarily make it easier.

Like EvilLumi says, the real bottle neck isn’t difficulty but whether someone is willing to dedicate their time to achieve something. Farming for hours for mats you need in bulk like Blood of Wolf, which btw drops around 0.9% last I checked, is not worth the tedium. Killing mobs 150 levels below my own is not difficult. Nor is gathering Alcohol for Illusion Doping, nor farming Eden Coins for BBG. But it is all very tedious, and farming for something with so low a drop rate to craft a buff item that lasts 5 minutes is not fun, nor is it difficult. It is just tedious.

A certain level of tedium is fine imo, mostly for things related to end-game content like Depth armors or weapons. But for non-game breaking content like food buffs the current level of tedium is pretty silly given we don’t have a player base of thousands alongside tons of bots like kRO does to farm these mats, even at such an abysmal drop rate.

Also would like to add that perhaps the amount needed to craft said food can also factor into the drop rate consideration as well. For instance:

Savage BBQ uses 1 Savage Meat (3.24%)

Warg Blood Cocktail uses 2 Cold Ice (5.45% - 16.93%) and 3 Blood of Wolf (0.92% drop rate)

Minor Brisket uses 2 Beef Head (5.45% - 26.47%)

Siroma Icetea uses 2 Ice Crystal (5.45% - 16.93%) and 3 Ice Piece (2.19% - 16.93%)

Drosera Herb Stew uses 2 Drosera Tentacle (5.45%)

Petite Tail Noodles uses 2 Petite Tail (5.45%)

*Only normal monster drop rates are considered here since these are generally more abundant.

In my opinion, warg blood cocktail is currently one of the significantly harder to craft ones due to the drop rate and amount needed to craft one and could really use a boost. Next in line is probably savage meat, drosera herb stew, and petite tail noodles could use a slight buff since these are on the lower end drop for drop rate. Beef head and the ice materials seems alright since many of them drop from the varmundt biosphere maps at a decent drop rate.
