Title: Ironman mode

Description:
Me and my friends play this server for years and wanted a new and refreshing way to play it, so we started this challenge run, we are having fun trying out new builds and solutions to getting to the endgame in a timely manner with the limitations, an so the idea to spread it to the community arouse. This suggestion follows that and will be made in two parts, one for the community and another for a possible new official mode with some core changes. For the first part I will create a wiki page with a way to play this mode based on the current muh systems with the following rules.

  • No trade with players
  • No buying from players
  • No selling to players
  • No looting from other people’s loot on the ground
  • No partying with other people
  • Use only a separate storage that only the ironman character can use

Or party mode with the following extra rules:

  • Create a fixed group with newly created ironman character
  • Trade is allowed between group members
  • Partying is allowed between group members

The core changes that I believe would be needed to make this gamemode viable in the long run and a official mode.

  • More runs per day for instances (5 per day)
  • Unlimited daily quests (for heirloom/muh coin farming)
  • Separate account inside the master that has limited access to shared systems in the master account (storage, cash shop, fashion points)
  • Ironman only shop to get items locked behind all damage necessary instances (for example Monster’s Stone)

Why is this a good idea?

It creates a new and refreshing way to play the server for those that want to partake in the callenge, it incentivizes strategizing ways to use equipments that are mostly useless (furious) because you can just skip stages of the game by buying strong gear right of the bat (nebula and time dimensions)

What risks or downsides does it have?

For the first part of the suggestion there is no downside because it is more of an optin mode for people that want it. However the second part would need development time to create the systems to separate the normal mode and ironman mode accounts. The only risk I would say is people from the community not wanting or seeing the fun in this challenge run.

Additional Info:

I would say a similar/goal of the ironman mode I am envisioning is from Old School RuneScape

I liked the idea, I think it would popularize group content (in ironman mode), and even “explore” the game in a more relaxed way for those who like step-by-step progression.

Its def a good idea that can be discussed, and in fact I think we’ve had some informal discussions about something like that before.
Would also suggest to add that death be permanent or at least works with a very long cooldown to respawn your char again.
Limiting access to stuff like master storage and the hard mode account can only use its own storage if even that.

@Ado

about death: I think things that prevent you from playing are not good

everything else I like and would be back to play xD

@Ado permanent death could be another opt in or a hardcore mode with some other rules.
One thing i would like to see is probably limiting this separate ironman account to 1 by master account to avoid multiclient (or maybe create a ironman specific master account. Don’t know how viable any of these are)

@Ado perma death and alike is a good opt-in, no storage would be a good adition to the ironman mode but i think we would need gym pass + the extra item limit by default to make it even playable

I’d be interested in an iron man mode with perma-death that bans trading items with other players in any way, but allows gives an increased exp & drop rate.

One way I could think of cheesing the “no handing items over” rule would be giving an item to a thief monster, ie a loot bug, and then letting another character kill it to transfer the item over.

I don’t understand the point for more instance and daily runs, can someone explain? Otherwise everything else can already be done on the server as is

@telu Considering most people would be playing with 1 character only, it helps a bit with progression since you would be doing the instance 1/day max.

Doing once a day would be way worse if you add party play into consideration. A party of 4 would be about 4x slower to get gears of some instances. This would be mitigated by the multiple runs a day.

This problem wouldnt obviously exist if people could make multiple characters in the ironman account, but it goes against the spirit of the challenge.

But partying is forbidden in the rules so rewards wouldn’t be split

@telu on solo mode, yes. On party mode…

For permadeath mode, is it possible to broadcast the last thing the player typed into the global chat?

I’ve played a different game that had that feature for their permadeaths. I’ve seen hilarious messages like “should be fine as long as they dont crit” and “wait are there traps in this room?”

@toadspaz From what I understand, the suggestion is for a new game mode, completely separate from the normal gameplay, that can offer real challenges and teamwork. If so, it sounds cool, especially if you play in groups and with friends.

However, I hope this doesn’t overburden the MUH and its GMs. Furthermore, I hope it can’t connect anything from the original game with this “Iron Man” mode  It takes too long to conquer the true endgame in the standard game. So let the hardcore fans have fun with the Iron Man mod.
