Add a Fast Mode to Lake of Fire

Description:
I would like to suggest adding an optional Fast Mode to the Lake of Fire instance.

Currently, the instance starts with a mechanic where the boss is protected and players need to lure it through all 8 traps before the actual boss fight can begin. Only after triggering every trap is the boss teleported to the battle area and its protection removed.

The suggestion would be to add an alternative mode where players can skip the lure/trap phase and fight the boss directly.

The normal mode could remain exactly as it is today, while players who already know the instance and only want to do their daily run could choose the Fast Mode when creating the instance.

Why is this a good idea?
From what I see, Lake of Fire is currently not an instance that many players regularly run.

One possible reason is that the preliminary mechanic adds a considerable amount of repetitive time to what is essentially a daily boss instance. The current reward structure is already based around killing one randomly selected boss and collecting the rewards when leaving the instance.

The trap mechanic is interesting when learning the content for the first time, but after many runs it can become more of a repetitive step than an actual challenge.

A Fast Mode could:

  • Encourage more players to include Lake of Fire in their daily routine.

  • Reduce repetitive setup time before the actual boss fight.

  • Make farming the instance more convenient without changing the boss itself.

  • Keep the original mechanics available for players who want to experience the instance normally.

  • Make older or less popular content more attractive again.

The intention is not to make the boss easier, but simply to reduce the repetitive part before the fight.

What risks or downsides does it have?
The main concern would be that skipping the mechanic reduces part of the original design of the instance.

For this reason, I think Fast Mode should be optional, rather than replacing the current version.

There could also be some restrictions or trade-offs if necessary, for example:

  • Fast Mode could require that the account has already completed Lake of Fire normally at least once.

  • It could still use the same daily cooldown.

  • Boss stats and combat mechanics would remain unchanged.

  • Rewards could remain the same unless there is a balancing reason to differentiate them.

Since the current trap phase does not provide a separate reward and primarily serves to remove the boss’s protection before combat, I don’t think skipping it after players have already experienced the mechanic would create a major balance problem.

Additional Info:
When creating the instance, the NPC could simply offer two options:

Normal Mode

  • Current Lake of Fire mechanics.

  • Lure the boss through all 8 traps.

  • Then fight the boss normally.

Fast Mode

  • Skip the trap/luring phase.

  • Start directly in the boss battle area.

  • Same boss mechanics, cooldown, and rewards.

Another possibility would be to unlock Fast Mode only after the player has completed the instance normally once, or after completing each of the four possible bosses at least once.

The general idea is to preserve the original Lake of Fire experience while providing a faster daily option for veteran players, which could help make the instance more active and worth running regularly.

Fast mode is supposed to skip long drawn out dialogues like in OGH normal / OGH hard. You’re not supposed to skip instances’ mechanics…

Why don’t we have fast mode for Villa where you can just skip the reapers and bonk Schulang at the beginning? Or fast mode ANYTHING and just take you to the MVP? Simply because it’ll just provide a lazy option to not play the actual game.

The luring in LoF itself is a learning curve that many people need to consistently get pass. Each boss has different strengths too in the luring phase (for example Coral does a lot of magic dmg so you need MDEF, Penguin does heavy physical damage so you should keep distance when luring, etc). Knowing where to go, how to optimize the luring, how to not die while luring, are part of what make the instance engaging.

The actual risks here is making the game too easy and boring where you can just skip all the “inconveniences.” Might as well ask them to 10x the rewards so you don’t need to make many alts to farm materials. I’m not even getting into how this will worsen the leeching of this instance when it’s going to be so much easier to free-ride with a skip button.

I’m a “veteran” player here and I’m happy with the current state of this instance. It’s still worth running without these skip buttons.

I was someone used to host public LoFs. The main reason I stopped hosting was because I noticed a lot of people joining the runs were older players just joining to leech; versus me actually helping newer players.

It’s true that a lot of older players rather not do the lure phase. However, it’s also true that if you are willing to do the lure phase; people are often very willing to help.

Johnny Depth and the Vatican (Pope John Paul) are example of other players who used to (or may still do occasionally ) host public LoF runs and didn’t seem to have an issue finding people to help.

It really is not too much of an ask/investment to make a VIT Soutane or Illusion Goibne set for the lure phase. In my experience with 150k+ hp and a mediale by a cardi ( can be an alt outside instance before going in), means you should have no issue luring with minimal pot usage.

I understand the concern about Fast Mode making the original LoF mechanics irrelevant.

Maybe it could be balanced with:

  • Limited uses per Master Account, for example 3 Fast Mode runs per reset or
  • Reduced rewards, giving only the corresponding Spring/Summer/Autumn/Winter Energy.

The idea isn’t to make LoF easier or completely replace the lure phase, but simply to reduce some of the repetition for players who have already done the content many times.

Normal runs would still be necessary and more rewarding, while Fast Mode would basically trade rewards for convenience.
