Taxes on auto vends

Hello again, Muh staffs.

I got into wondering “where does the taxes go from vending?” surely, it goes somewhere meaningful? is what i thought. But, upon confirmation with muh, it just disappears into nothingness. I feel like that’s such a WASTE. What even is the point of that % of zeny going into the nether? It just feels bad to see the earning you get from a hard work farming go to nothing.

With that said, I come with a suggestion, and would like to have the community on this too ( if possible, of course ).

What if those taxes that is just lost from auto vend to be sent to the exp event? That way, no one will be “pressured” into donating.

I feel like this will be a healthy QOL if it can be coded to do that. Plus, the newbies can take advantage of this the most if an exp event can happen more often due to the community’s taxes. Hopefully, this would be possible by the great potato muh! :folded_hands:

Gonna disagree with that unless EXP-Event threshold increases (which is not a popular opinion, I’m sure) - The reason for tax and other money sinks is to pull money out of the economy. Zeny, as it is, is insanely prevalent so you want more and more reasons to force people to spend it to vent it out of the economy.

^ he detailed it very nicely. zeny sinks are very important in controlling inflation.
-1 for me as well.

-1 for reasons stated above.

Could something be done with the tax zeny? Probably, but it mustn’t be used to reduce other zeny sinks.

-1 You need tax to keep inflation down. Too much money accumulated on player’s hands are not good for the health of the server. I actually thinking of asking for more tax up to 10% for items above 1b suggestion (important and I might make the thread if needed)

@shockilator The suggestion does not remove or reduce the tax.
Zeny would still be permanently deleted from the economy.
The difference is only that the deleted zeny would trigger a collective EXP event instead of disappearing without visible impact.
The economic balance remains unchanged.

@coffee I appreciate your perspective but what I would point out is that the exp event currently costs 16b to trigger. If the 3% that is collected as tax is somehow funnelled into that exp event then you are not double killing that zeny from that server. Also, think of the large number of transactions that occur in the market while considering this.

Let’s say that, on average, 1b worth of zeny is spent every day in the market. Sure, that’s only 30m being “kept” and therefore funnelled into the exp event, but that’s still an additional 30m that could’ve been culled from a player. The larger the amount of zeny being laundered through the market, the less that is required to be donated/culled directly from player’s bank accounts. It’s only healthy for the server to continue to add MORE zeny sinks rather than to slightly soften this one.

Will the tribute zeny, converted for the XP event, return to the game in what way?

Actually this will make rich players eve more jacked and prices go up to compensate this %. Meanwhile, prices for general goods as it was so players should farm even more. This is because e.g. MVP cards are “quite” rare, still, and general items have own rivalry. If you want your approach to work we’ll need another two mechanics from real world: antimonopoly and prices monitoring for all kind of the goods.

@coffee I would argue that it does because when established players make new characters, the on-kill zeny is something that they’re now grabbing where before they weren’t. Is it as much money as they invested for the event? No, probably not. But now with the incentive for folks to make 1x characters who can start hunting for non-card drops slightly easier, who knows what that is going to do to the market long-term?

And again, all that I’m talking about is more secondary to the topic at hand which is the potential reinvestment of taxed funds - to be productive to the topic, maybe taxed funds COULD be tracked and put into a different collective pool, maybe for specific events in addition to the hourly ones.

@shockilator Your point is true. It seems simple enough to reinvest tax zeny in EXP Events, but we don’t know what the long-term consequences will be.

-1. Both EXP Event and Vend Tax sink an unlimited resource, so both can’t inform each other. Waste implies that zeny is a finite resource, but anyone can make zeny as it’s a function of time, which is a luxury in itself.

I think you’re making an argument to justify periodic EXP Events, which is a luxury.
