This is irrelevant to players using episode skip tickets, world moving tickets, warper NPC, and @go or @loadcommands.
With that out of the way, players that don’t use episode skip tickets may notice a few things while doing episode 17.2 (and later episodes) main story quests.
- At the end of episode 17.2 (Legacy of the Wise/Varmundt Mansion) and beginning of episode 18 (Direction of Prayer/Gray Wolf Village), there is no convenient route from Varmundt Mansion to Rachel. Without using the warper, the player has to walk from Varmundt Mansion, through the First Power Plant and Sewage Treatment Plant, back to Cor, all the way to Einbroch airport, take the airship to Juno, switch to international route, then take the airship to Rachel. There is no official inn/save point I’m aware of in Varmundt Mansion and Cor. The closest official inn/save and respawn points from Varmundt Mansion are in Einbroch and Ice Castle.
- At the end of episode 18 and beginning of episode 19 (Issgard), the player is supposed to interact with an NPC in Gray Wolf Village, then make their way back to Varmundt Mansion. Without using the warper, the player has to walk from Gray Wolf Village, through the Gray Wolf Forest, Oz Dungeon, Rachel field, get to the airport east of Rachel, take the airship to Juno, switch to domestic route, take the airship to Einbroch, go through Einbroch field, Cor town, Sewage Treatment Plant, First Power Plant, before arriving back in Varmundt Mansion. There is no official inn/save point I’m aware of in Gray Wolf Village, and the closest official inn/save points seem to be in Rachel.
I am fully aware using the warper NPC, @go commands, world moving tickets render this a non issue, but that’s not the point.
In officials, the problem of traveling through and among “towns” without official inns and save/respawn points in episode 17.1, 17.2, and 18 is solved by Wizard Nillem, a character/NPC from episode 16.1 (Banquet for Heroes).
Narratively, Nillem was assigned by the Heine clan to the player, in order to investigate the stolen Terra Gloria, by warping the player from present Prontera to Prontera in the past (Room of Consciousness and Sky Fortress instance dungeons). Nillem continuously serves the player throughout their pursuit of the Illusion group in episode 16.2 (Terra Gloria), 17.1, 17.2, 18, then again in episode 21 (Age of Heroes) when Nillem finally joins the player and Lehar to travel to Lunaphoma in the past, to destroy the cult of Jormungandr, weaken Lasgand in the present, and break their curse on the Gaebolg clan (cmiiw, I read quest dialog a long time ago but nowadays I just speed through them).
In MuhRO, players don’t really see Nillem again after finishing episode 16.1, then suddenly he shows up again at the start of episode 21, with a massive glow up but without much preamble. It’s jarring, but only because he’s not where he should be, which is inside Einbroch’s Cat on Bullet pub, close to the Einbroch train station and Einbroch inn/official save point and respawn point. It seems iRO players can find Nillem inside Einbroch and pay him a small amount of zeny to warp to nearby locations such as Heart Hunter War Base, Rudus 1F, Cor town, and Varmundt Mansion. All of Nillem’s warp destinations are accessible after the player visits Varmundt Mansion and speaks with Alpha for the first time. It seems this Nillem also exists in kRO for the players’ convenience.
Why is this a good idea?
Having the same NPC stick with the player from Lv 100+ in Banquet of Heroes until Lv 230+ in Jorscalp Temple, is narratively grounding and pleasing. Using official utility NPCs like the inns, official save/respawn points, official warpers, also makes the 1x rates experience feel a bit more authentic.
What risks or downsides does it have?
It’s probably a bit of work to get the Cat on Bullet Pub warper Nillem’s actual dialog and specific coordinates of his warp destinations. Additionally, Nillem only charges iRO players 500z per warp, very cheap considering how much a casual MuhRO player can earn from 30 minutes of farming. Therefore, the warp fee may be increased, or changed to something else (for example, 1 World Moving Ticket, or 1 Cor Core, or 1 Varmeal Ticket, or 1 Fashion Point per warp), or removed entirely since warper NPC is free of charge. Personally I can’t imagine adding this NPC will cause balancing or performance issues, or potential to be abused.
Additional Info:
- Nillem in kRO
- Nillem in iRO
- Crux (the bodyguard of Nerius clan ladies) can be found in MuhRO (
@navi ba_in01 48 148). Players who completed 17.1 can talk to him to warp directly to Prontera Central Palace (where King Nihil is), and then talk to Chamberlain Bell to return to the banquet area of Prontera Castle. Considering Episode 19 and Chapter 1 are accessible as early as Lv 200, Crux may be there for the convenience of players aiming to complete both main story quests for the EXP. If Crux is there despite the accessibility of warper NPC and@gocommands, there should be little to no harm in adding Nillem to the Einbroch Cat on Bullet pub to provide warps to locations related to episodes 16.2, 17.1, 17.2. - Considering a recent patch cleared out illegal /memo points, adding legal/official warper is in the same spirit of keeping the game fair and rewarding to players who take their time and put in the effort to complete main story quests, in order to legally access special “towns” like Varmundt Mansion, Gray Wolf Village, Ice Castle, and Lunaphoma.
