Kick useless autotraders

How about automatically kicking autotraders after a week? Or maybe after not selling anything after a week? Main account of the vendor could receive a note via rodex.

I have a feeling that otherwise their number will slowly increase over time up to a point where it will make issues. Some vendors might even belong to inactive players.

The market server gets offline from time to time through an error or whatever. So all traders get logged out from time to time.

Doesn’t seem like a problem

@boembchen that is nothing you should expect as it’s not intended when it happens. In the past these were some issues with the server or the admin doing a mistake …

So I think this is a legit suggestion. So do you want this and which duration do you want?

But can’t it be possible than to kick afk players too? it takes 0,2ms longer to load a map with the 50 afk people in prontera :grimacing:

Oh and the costumes and pets and homun makes it hard to navigate around the southern part of the fountain

Joke aside:
Why kick em after all? You don’t know if they only are doing a holiday trip, gone for work or whatever.
How long has the trader to be online to count as too long online? Let’s make an example - someone is going to on holiday for like 3 weeks, pretty common in Europe. He’s got no possibility to log on after 1 week to set the trader up again.
So he’s going to loose „2 weeks of sale time“ - because of „it will make issue“ ?
Maybe when it’s like 1 - 2 month, ok. But one week seems pretty short.

I mean if your vend is gonna take 3 weeks to sell stuff you probably priced it wrong
kick them I say

What’s the point of kicking auto traders?

I don’t think it hurts if you’re shop is online for infinite time as long as it sells stuff and therefore benefits the community. But having unmaintained vends forever with overpriced items or trash doesn’t benefit anyone. Sure the server might handle it without problem, but I think we need a nechanism to clean up the market from orphaned and unmaintained vends without forcing everyone to redo their shop.

1 month without actually selling something should be more than enough so that no one can complain

Hmm…I’m not so sure about this but I do see OP’s point…sometimes I wonder if players search efficiently for the items they want. Do many players even know they can search MuhRO’s webpage for what is being sold in realtime? Many players honestly and probably aren’t aware of these MuhRO Vendor pages on our main site:

(market selling)
https://flux.muhro.eu/?module=marketdb&action=venditems

or this page (market buying):
https://flux.muhro.eu/?module=marketdb&action=buyitems

If they knew or know, it helps to effectively seek what they want to buy or sell and for how much, etc. I also think there might be an issue with the Buying page. I am not sure if it properly gives results on what is being sold? Maybe I’m wrong but it seems that way. Boembchen has a great point too. Perhaps a couple of months a master account check can be made? The reason I suggest master account is if a player prefers the prices they set (whether or not another player considers it "right/wrong, good/bad price lol…) instead of being kicked, your Vendor stays intact because the players’ master account is checked (if technically possible without the Muh Team having to do too much tech work?) and if there is login activity then the vendor is left alone, etc. This is a rough idea but hopefully it is understood.

Now…I suppose a check and cleansing could (or should? up to Muh Team) be checked for inactive accounts. (Ahem…I’ll uhh…gladly take all of their items too :D) Good idea Rusty, but I’m not so sure about auto-kick if no activity in a month. Maybe Boemb’s idea of 1-2 months but if a check can be made for the master account then that is idea so that a player’s vendor doesn’t get kicked and their preferred pricing remains.

I actually disagree with this suggestion. i think it is great how long shops stay active autotrading. Imagine creating lots of vends and setting them up and then having to take the time to reset them everyday. hours of trying to set up vends… Every man’s trash is another man’s treasure. No vend is useless.

What’s the point of this suggestion?

What’s the point of asking what the point is? It was discussed extensively.

@RustyCrab To be fair, it does seem like a peculiar demand to have.
Like, genuinely, why?
Shouldn’t be that much of a hassle for the server to handle those merchants.
I’d hope so at least.

@RustyCrab discussed extensively what?

@RustyCrab I have a feeling that otherwise their number will slowly increase over time up to a point where it will make issues.

This is the only point where your suggestion has a sense of urgency as to why this needs to be implemented, even then there isn’t a tangible ‘issue’ that would caused by idle autotraders.
I asked that because I don’t see why this is even a problem in the first place.

And there is nothing more to it. but I will try to elaborate:

You are right, the server should be able to handle autotraders for the next months at least. Autotraders are handled as actual online players by the emulator. Even if they don’t do anything while vending, each one will have a small impact in CPU and RAM which results in added cost to the server operation and possibly lag. It is currently unknown to me what the actual limits are, bot no ressource is unlimited, so there will be issues eventually.

This might not be urgent, also correct, but during the last 10 days there where 100 vendors added to the market. In 1 year we will be at 3500 to 4000 merchants, assuming they dont get kicked by accident and the numbers of active players stays constant (although it will probably rise, hopefully

The point of the suggestion is that it is already visible, that this number has a rising tendency and it affects server performance and cost. For a healthy long term operation a counter measure should be put in place.

I have asked if there are known limitations in rA Discord. I will post it here, if I get an answer.

Well let us try to also remember that some of us may actually be actively monitoring vending via the main website and/or our accounts found on the main webpage. Example: I check if I’ve made any zeny on my account page. If so or not I might decide to log in to make adjustments, or just keep my merchant where they are and keep vending, etc.

At this point we don’t see the need to kick the auto-traders
