Introduce Percentage-Only Rerolls for Frontier Weapons (Preserve Perfect Categories)

Title:
Introduce Percentage-Only Rerolls for Frontier Weapons (Preserve Perfect Categories)**

Description:
Currently, muhRO has a reroll system for Frontier weapons, but it rerolls everything—both the enchant categories and their percentage values. While this gives players a second chance, it is incredibly punishing. If a player spends weeks farming an Encroached weapon to get a perfect triple-category roll (e.g., Physical Damage x3) and upgrades it to Frontier, but rolls low percentages (e.g., 20%/10%/10%), their only option is to use the current full reroll—which risks destroying those perfect categories entirely.

Crucially: If an Encroached weapon drops with both perfect categories AND perfect maximum percentages (25%/15%/15%), it transforms into a perfect Frontier weapon at no extra cost. That “jackpot” item retains its ultimate value and is entirely unaffected by this suggestion.

This proposal targets the second-best tier: weapons with perfect categories but imperfect percentages. It suggests adding a new, separate reroll function for Frontier weapons that only rerolls the percentage values, while completely locking the categories.

This would work alongside the existing full reroll system, giving players a clear choice:

  • Option A (Current System): Full reroll (categories + percentages) – use this if your categories are bad.

  • Option B (New System): Percentage-only reroll – use this if your categories are perfect, but your numbers are low.

The percentage-only reroll would consume significant endgame materials (e.g., Tuning Formulas, Temporal Crystals, or Zero Cell drops) to ensure it remains a high-investment activity.

Why is this a good idea?

  • Fixes the “All-or-Nothing” Frustration: The current system creates a terrible feeling where landing perfect categories actually becomes a liability, because you know you can’t safely fix the percentages. This new system gives players a clear, non-destructive path forward without devaluing the true jackpot.

  • Preserves the Value of the Ultimate Jackpot: Since a perfectly rolled Encroached weapon (perfect cats + perfect %) already turns into a perfect Frontier weapon for free, that chase remains entirely intact and highly prestigious. This system only helps the “near-miss” weapons, giving them a purpose rather than leaving them as permanent disappointments.

  • Adds Strategic Depth: Players now have a meaningful choice: “Do I use the full reroll to hunt for better categories, or do I invest safely in this perfect-category weapon to slowly max out its percentages?”

  • Respects Player Effort: Farming a triple-perfect-category Encroached weapon is an enormous achievement. This system ensures that achievement is never invalidated by a bad percentage roll. It turns a “feels-bad” moment into a satisfying long-term project.

  • Encourages More Frontier Upgrades: Currently, many players hesitate to turn a great Encroached weapon into a Frontier one because they are afraid of being stuck with low percentages and no safe way to fix them. This system encourages more players to take that step, increasing demand for Frontier materials and keeping the economy active.

What risks or downsides does it have?

  • Potential Power Creep: If the cost is too low, players will max out their “near-miss” weapons too quickly. Mitigation: Set the cost high enough that it acts as a long-term resource sink. For example, require 100 Physical/Magic Tuning Formulas + 5 Rare Drops per full percentage reroll. This keeps it exclusively for dedicated endgame players and ensures the true “jackpot” Encroached drop still feels incredibly rewarding.

  • Impact on Existing Market: The value of “mid-roll” Frontier weapons might shift. However, the primary chase—the perfect triple-category + max % Encroached weapon—remains the most valuable item in the game, as it bypasses this entire system. The existing full reroll system remains for those who want to gamble on new categories, preserving that market niche.

  • Development Time: Adding a new NPC/interaction requires scripting. However, since the server already has mechanics for locking specific lines and existing reroll logic, this is a feasible extension rather than a ground-up rebuild.

Additional Info:

This system is directly inspired by “affix locking” mechanics in other ARPGs and MMOs, such as:

  • Diablo III’s “Enchanting” system, where you can reroll one specific stat on an item while locking the rest.

  • Lost Ark’s “Quality Upgrade” system, where you upgrade the numerical value of an item’s stats without changing its set bonuses.

Example Scenario:

  1. A player farms an Encroached Two-Handed Sword with:

    • Line 1: Melee Damage +20% (Perfect Category, but 5% below max)

    • Line 2: Melee Damage +10% (Perfect Category, but 5% below max)

    • Line 3: Melee Damage +10% (Perfect Category, but 5% below max)

  2. They upgrade it to Frontier. The stats carry over. It’s a great weapon, but they know it could be better.

  3. The current full reroll would force them to risk losing “Melee Damage” entirely.

  4. With the new system, they visit the new NPC, pay the hefty material cost, and click “Reroll Percentages Only.”

  5. The system randomly rerolls the three values to, say, 22% / 11% / 13%. The categories remain “Melee Damage.”

  6. They repeat this over several weeks until they hit the max 25% / 15% / 15%.

  7. Meanwhile, a different player loots an Encroached sword with 25%/15%/15% from the start. They upgrade it to Frontier and have a perfect weapon instantly, with zero extra cost—preserving the excitement and value of that ultra-rare drop.

This proposal gives players a reason to keep farming endgame content long after they’ve found their “perfect category” weapon, turning a frustrating brick wall into a satisfying marathon—without stepping on the toes of the ultimate jackpot drop, let me know in the comments below your thoughts!
