GM events - Refrain from awarding participation

This is a self explanatory situation. Like all things in ro, a GM event should be a competition. It should serve as an activity, not a binding agreement to receive something, for nothing. I understand the GMs want the best environment, but as we’ve witnessed today, there are people who are just in it for the prize, while offering the bare minimum.

This has to change, or it will only get worse. Competition breeds a healthy participation value, and most importantly, respect for the fellow players, and the GMs hosting it. if you create an entitlement group, they will only complain and ruin what you are working so hard for to achieve.

Thank you for reading, and please consider offering tiers of rewards based on performance.

The Participation Rewards is already really small. What would be the events, that you think can be abused?
i would say the competition is already there. i dont understand how people who just in it for the participation rewards can messing with others people effort?

To be honest I didn’t quite understand you. As far as GM events go we have: Poring Catcher, GM Bombering and Reverse Dice. Afaik, Poring Catcher only gives you Muh Coin when you find and kill the right Poring. GM Bombering will reward you more coins the longer you survive, play well and you get up to 96 Muh Coins. Someone who enters and do nothing gets 6. Feels competitive enough to me. Just so I even try to get in the way of my friends.

Those aside, Reverse Dice is the only one that rewards for participation, but you can say it’s due to the nature of the event. Still, you won’t get as much Muh Coin surviving a few rounds compared to actually winning the event. In the end, you only receive meaningful reward if you actually play, so I’m not quite sure what’s your point.

@SpaceHelm I think Lumi is referring to a certain event that happened today, but I do feel like this might not be the case for all events

Disagree, I don’t think it’s a good approach to suggest general changes just to spite one specific player.

I think I know which situation you are referencing, but I also feel like pretty much everyone else did a good job to tell them they were out of line (so it’s clearly not a “community”-issue).

as we’ve witnessed today

I have no idea what happened.

Where do you get this from? Most of the toxicity in RO comes from competition. Look at all the drama that’s spawned from PVP in every server, even in PVE where people KS because they want to out play you by whatever means necessary.

I don’t think there’s a problem with current events and there might be situations when a GM/EM puts up some extra easy rewards.
If you were part of it say thanks if you weren’t you shouldn’t “cry” about missing it.
In general I don’t see the actual suggestion as the events are balanced to reward winners.

@cruro If it was one specific player, I wouldn’t be writing this. I guess we’ll just continue offering participation points to players then. Hope Ice enjoys the whining and just utter overly privileged behavior. We all love those apparently.

I see some players have a problem if I try to reward players instead of having none winners. Next time I won’t do this again. It was my mistake to make the players happy at this one “failed” dart round. Next time you will go out without rewards. End of discussion.
