Title: There’s a disconnect, and I think its not good for the health of the server.
Description:
When I first started playing this server, the download was obviously on the website. Now it has been switched to a link you generate in the Discord chat. Looking at the official website it is not obvious that this is the method for getting the download link. I don’t think its anyones first instincts to join the discord (before installing the game and fudging around for a bit no less) - so it just comes across as “what is wrong with the people running this server?” situation.
I’m not sure if it was a ‘security’ reason to make this change or not, but its likely unnecessarily confusing for many that want to try this server.
Please either put on the homepage of the website a callout telling people to join the discord and type /download in the discord to get the link to download link. Or, if possible, put the download link back on the website.
Why is this a good idea?
Making the server more accessible to play will increase playerbase - at least, I could see people being repelled by the inability to easily download the game.
What risks or downsides does it have?
Increasing download traffic maybe? Not sure.
Additional Info:
If possible, compare with similar features in other games. Include images, mock-ups, or examples.
I’ve never heard of a game (or RO pserver) requiring people to join the discord in order to generate a download link for themselves. I would think if it was such an issue that more people would be doing it?

@LoreChief I believe the download being moved to discord was due to security reasons.
It does seem unintuitive for new players (and existing players) to have to go to discord and use a command to download rather than download off the website itself. It seems that there are questions about how to download the game every day, and that’s just the people who go on the discord to ask. I’d assume there are some prospective members who don’t initially go on the discord before joining the server and never end up downloading the game.
Hopefully there’s some middle ground where there’s still the security the GMs desire and players can still download off the website

I agree, I have just joined and find this process quite off putting, I should be able to have a link directly to download the client if your pushing it through discord, I literally was searching the website anywhere to mention how to download the client and there was nothing. I am more IT savvy but this was really off putting. Still no indication where to get the download link.

Maybe add that to download the client you must join discord as well?

Everyday we see a lot of people asking how to download the server, i can’t imagine how many players do not join the discord to ask and just give up when looking at the website
