@hefrokk + 1
I agree that our characters should appear as we intend them to after styling (we spend a lot of time and effort… and 5k points to do so)

@Akin
I totally agree with the introduction to new players of the system, however it still needs to have a default on/off despite having an introduction of the system. However, atleast that would make people aware.
I have a few suggestions,
I think with 15+ characters that I’ve spent with expandstyle, aswell as some of my friends, considering it’s a feature of the server and something we pay Cash Shop points for, I think it’s just better to leave it on by default, and let whomever wants to turn it off, let it be off. As someone mentioned, its not used for recruiting members, and the option should definetely be disabled in PvP or any content maps where classes would be deemed important.
As a side note, I’m personally not the type of player to read much in introductions, I just wanna get in there, play my game and enjoy it. However, as an alternative, an automatic broadcast informing players they can turn it on can be an improvement.
Alternatively, let it be turned on by default in towns atleast, where that actually has very little impact on the experience for new players.

Now I’m curious, if you’re a current player, and you’ve just been bing chilling, just not even really looking at #global, just farming, doing your own thing. It’d be a bit of a sudden shock to see Trouveres using Ignition Blast, or whatever.
Would this Expand Style switch also flip towards current players? I suppose, a simple message box that’s linked to the Master Account, kind of like, “Yes I’ve read it, I know expand style is now active and I’ll probably see Arch Mages casting Devotion.”
Honestly every deflection that says it’ll confuse new players or it makes things hard to see, perhaps “@hideoutfits” and “@hidehateffect” should also be default ON to ensure full clarity.
If checking gear is an issue:

Isn’t there already an option to allow someone to inspect someone’s gear?

-1 as well, not a fan of cross class outfit as it adds nothing to gameplay and only causes unnecessary hassle/confusion. Imho, Gravity would have implemented something similar ages ago if they though it was a good idea, but even jro ended up only making slight modifications to class sprites while keeping them easily distinguishable. But more importantly, it’s a unique feature that newcomers aren’t aware with and probably don’t care for since it’s not something the server advertise in the first place.
Personally, I would prefer this specific feature be omitted and return alternate outfit feature to the way it’s intended by the official (class specific but visible to others by default). But if this server want to keep this feature as is, I agree with Akin that players (especially newcomers) should be introduced early on (perhaps part of tutorial) so they can make an informed decision whether to turn this feature on/off (off by default since people tend to skip tutorial or fail to read).
@Sedori perhaps “@hideoutfits” and “@hidehateffect” should also be default ON to ensure full clarity.
No amount of costume/effect can hide IG’s ugly bird, but during extended party play, I would rather look at something that’s ugly but easily identified on my screen over constantly reminding myself that the cute cardi carrying a giant scythe is the one I run toward to for devo.

The command @hidemount hides the mount to everyone’s POV, you can’t unhide on their behalf. So, they can in theory make use of the Shrink Effect, and use @hidemount, to make themselves near invisible in a party setting. Is that disruptive to party play? Definitely, and that’s a possibility. And that’s when you can turn off @expandstyle for your visual clarity, but their mount is still hidden.
The main discussion here is if @expandstyle should be on by default, and not if it should be permanently on. It’s less awkward to have to turn off @expandstyle for a dungeon grinding session, than to never even find out it’s a thing.
