I am a player who enjoys giving advice to newbies on where to go next, or what the next best upgrade is, or which guide is best relevant to them. Lately though I’ve seen new players with questions coming from using outdated info on some guides.
Now I’m not gonna ask the old guides to be deleted. I used some of them 2 years when I first started playing, so I don’t want to invalidate the work that was put into these guides.
So what’s the best solution that pays respect to these guide makers but also doesn’t point new players to the wrong direction? Can wiki mods just put (Outdated) onto the title of guides who’s last update was more then a year from the last major update?

Need more people to volunteer at making new ones or updating the existing ones. It’s the proper real solution.
About putting “outdated” in the title is something you can discuss on the discord channel for wiki.

Allow for people to submit updates to outdated guides I guess

I wouldn’t feel comfortable with other people updating my guides tbh, and I don’t know if other guide makers would want that either. If people made mistakes in their updates or make updates that I don’t agree with, I would still be on the hook for those changes. And if people ask questions from the guide, I want to be equipped to answer any questions from it which I wouldn’t be able to do with other people making changes. I do try my best to keep my guides updated tho so im aware this is probably not about my guides, but that’s just my two cents on updating other people’s guides in general.
Probably the best way is for other people to make guides if guides are outdated, but that’s a lot easier said than done.
Maybe a good way to update these guides is to move the automatic “last edited” that wiki provides to the top for user guides, so players viewing a guide will see immediately whether something has been updated recently. However, it’s not full proof as that will appear for any small change made by the initial creator or not.
Alternatively, When episode 21 came out I added a “NOT UP TO DATE WITH EP 21” on all my guides until I could update it. Maybe a better option would be that we make it common place for guide creators to manually add a “Last Updated:” date at the top. If people like this option, I’ll go ahead and add it to my own guides hahaha. And someone can add it to all of the other guides too. But guide creators will have to make sure that they keep the date for those updated.

Give others the option to edit a guide which is not written by themselves is a No-Go. Even if the Guide is 2 years old, there should not be anyone editing this guide than the original writer himself.
When someone is not happy with the updates of a guide then there are multiple options for this person:
1. Simply just dont follow this guide
2. Try to make your own thoughts about the missing part / or make your own guide (either on wiki or just for urself)
3. Try to contact the original writer
4. Ask in Job-Channel-Discord for advice
When a guide is really really old, obviously outdated and just “wrong”, then it should be possible to contact Mods/Admins and let them remove the guide after trying to contact the writer.

By updating i didnt mean writing over the old one, just making an updated version of it. If this is organized by making a new page and changing authorial details or whatever that’s up for you people who edit wiki to decide.

@Choi The suggestion isn’t talking about guides that are being kept updated by active people though.
I think there’s a middle ground between “allow anyone to edit any guide” and “don’t let people touch anything”. Like allow people to suggest changes to outdated guides, and if the author doesn’t mind or is MIA then an admin can add the change
How about that?

A solution that I can think of is to simple unlist the outdated guides from the Player Guides section and make a small announcement in the Main Page about the unlisted guides, so if a returning player sees his/her own guide not there he/she would know that the page still exists but it’s just hidden. This would avoid to other people edit any guide that is not theirs.

This is actually what I do everytime I update/edit my guide, and it’s right up on top so people can see when the latest change was made. c:

@telu I wouldn’t like someone updating my guide, the guide is my take on progression and having someone else edit it without consent feels like someone is putting words in my mouth.
I believe the idea of delisting guides which aren’t up to date from the player guides category and re-adding them if the author returns makes more sense.
Nobody’s work gets messed with and there’s no out of date guides.

@CongaLyne So if you ever stop playing the game you’d rather your guide stopped being available to help new players than allow someone else to update it ?

@telu yes. Use it as Long as it is up to Date and if its getting to old, make a new one, copy the part from mine u would like to copy, add ur stuff, give a Small shoutout, and all happy

I think we can still have them available rather than delisted, as they may still be helpful for players even if they’re outdated. I would think having an outdated guide is better than having no guide if there’s no alternative.
@telu Like allow people to suggest changes to outdated guides, and if the author doesn’t mind or is MIA then an admin can add the change
Totally fine with allowing people to suggest changes so long as they get the final approval from the original author. In the end, that’s up to the author to decide. However, a change shouldn’t be made to the author’s guide without their approval even if they are MIA.
@Reeen Use it as Long as it is up to Date and if its getting to old, make a new one, copy the part from mine u would like to copy, add ur stuff, give a Small shoutout, and all happy
Yeah pretty much agreed with Reeen here. If a player is MIA, other players will need to create their own guide rather than updating the player’s guide (without approval). If it uses information from other player guides then the appropriate credits should be provided.

Anyways, I added a Last Updated date to all of my up-to-date guides of today’s date. The only one that has a different date is the guide to late game instances since that isn’t updated for Tower of Trials (no idea when it will be HEH).
